Some rooms are too good to close in October. The rooftop that fills every Friday night. The courtyard that sells the hotel. The terrace that sold the condo. The mWAVE 5.0 kW Pro exists so those rooms keep earning after the season turns.

5,000 watts of medium-wave radiant heat, delivered from an architectural profile 62.2 inches long and barely 3.8 inches deep. Ninety percent of the electricity it draws leaves as infrared aimed at the floor — not at the air above it — so warmth arrives within seconds of switch-on and stays put when the doors swing open and the wind picks up. Sealed to IP65. Wired straight into your switch, sensor or building automation. Finished in black, and quiet enough to disappear into a ceiling plane.

Performance & Fitment

Rated Output 5,000 W (5.0 kW)
Voltage 240 V
Current Draw 20.8 A
Phase / Frequency Single phase / 60 Hz
Minimum Branch Circuit 30 A dedicated (26.0 A at 125% continuous load)
Recommended Mounting Height 10 – 14 ft
Coverage Area 24 × 22 ft at 10 ft, up to 27 × 26 ft at 14 ft
Radiant Efficiency 90% (tested to AHRI Standard 1330)
Heating Elements 2 × carbon sock, medium wave

Branch circuit size shown is the code-derived minimum — 125% of rated amperage under NEC/CEC continuous-load rules. Final circuit and conductor sizing also depends on wire run length, ambient temperature, and other loads sharing the panel. Confirm with your electrician before ordering materials.

Coverage by Mounting Height

Radiant intensity falls as mounting height rises, and the comfort footprint widens with it. Use this to set spacing between units and to confirm the 5.0 kW is the right size for your space.

Mounting Height 10 ft 11 ft 12 ft 13 ft 14 ft
Coverage (ft) 24 × 22 25 × 23 25 × 24 26 × 25 27 × 26
Coverage (m) 7.5 × 6.5 7.5 × 7 7.5 × 7 7.5 × 7.5 8 × 8

Coverage is the floor area receiving at least 10 Btu/h·ft² (30 W/m²). Intensity peaks directly beneath the unit and tapers toward the edges.

Key Features

  • Carbon sock element. A woven carbon sleeve instead of a traditional coiled wire. It runs cooler, glows less, and spreads heat along its full length without the hot spots and hard glare a coil produces.
  • Low-glare medium wave. Strong radiant warmth with far less visible light than a short-wave heater. Candlelight, table settings and architectural lighting survive intact — the heat arrives without the orange floodlight.
  • IP65 weather-sealed housing. Fully sealed against dust and water jets. Rated for exposed outdoor installation in Canadian winters.
  • Integration ready. A direct-wire junction box instead of onboard electronics — drop it onto a line-voltage thermostat, a timer switch, an occupancy sensor, or a BAS relay and control it the way the rest of the building is controlled.
  • Nothing to pair, nothing to update. No app account, no Wi-Fi dependency, no firmware. It does one thing and keeps doing it.
  • 90% radiant efficiency. Tested to AHRI Standard 1330. Nine of every ten watts leave as infrared directed at the occupied zone.
  • Adjustable aim, 0° to 67.5°. Stainless-steel angle brackets included. Mount flat to a ceiling plane or angle it toward the seating group or the open edge.
  • No drafts, no noise, no ductwork. No fan, no combustion, no gas line, no outdoor condenser. One dedicated circuit and it runs.
  • Single-phase power. 240 V, standard residential and light-commercial supply. No three-phase service required.

Control Options

The Pro model has no onboard electronics. It terminates in a waterproof junction box and takes its orders from whatever you wire in front of it.

  • Line-voltage thermostat — rated for the heater's voltage and amperage. Mount on an interior wall 5 ft above the floor, never inside the heater's radiant field or it will short-cycle.
  • Timer switch — guest-activated countdown. The usual choice for patios, where there is no air mass to maintain.
  • Occupancy sensor — line-voltage capable. Automatic on/off for entryways and intermittently used areas.
  • Multi-unit zones — wire in parallel to one thermostat up to 30 A at supply voltage; beyond that use a contactor sized to the total load.

Want app and remote control instead? Specify the Smart model (MW50M24V), which adds integrated Wi-Fi, a handheld remote, five power levels and a countdown timer.

What's in the Box

  • mWAVE MW50M24 heater
  • 2 × stainless-steel adjustable-angle installation brackets, 2 × installation hooks
  • 4 × wing screw (M5 × 16), 4 × wing nut (M5), 4 × wing screw (M4 × 8)
  • Strain relief bushing for 0.394–0.551" (10–14 mm) cable
  • 3 × wire nuts

Chains for suspended installation are not supplied. The mWAVE Hanger Kit (MS017B) is available separately.

Why Medium Wave

Short-wave heaters put out intense heat and an intense orange light to go with it. Long-wave heaters are comfortable but slow, and air movement defeats them. Medium wave sits between: high absorbency into skin and surfaces, low reflection, and a fraction of the visible light.

That matters most in the rooms this heater is built for. A rooftop bar at 9pm is a lighting design as much as a heating load. The mWAVE delivers the warmth without rewriting the room's atmosphere — which is exactly why it ends up in restaurants, hotels and high-end residential work rather than warehouses.

Installation Requirements

  • Dedicated single-phase branch circuit, 30 A, 240 V. Heaters are a continuous load — conductor and overcurrent protection sized at 125% of rated amperage per NEC/CEC.
  • Minimum 8 ft from the finished floor. Minimum 18" from vertical surfaces and walls.
  • Line-voltage control only. Never use a 24 V low-voltage thermostat intended for forced-air HVAC — it will damage both the thermostat and the heater circuit.
  • Installation by a qualified person; electrical connection by a certified electrician, to the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) or Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 (C22.1) and all local codes.
  • Confirm requirements with your authority having jurisdiction before specifying.
